Protein Review - Fuel10K High Protein Liquid Breakfast (Caffe Latte)

I find that something that should be so easy, yet in reality is difficult, is to make a great tasting high protein coffee. Most of the ones I have tried thus far either lack significant coffee flavour, is overpowered by the taste of whey, or more commonly, the thick stodgy texture lets it down. We'll see how this one fares.....

Taste - 3/10

The coffee taste is present, however, it has a slightly sickly, unidentifiable aftertaste which is reminiscent of a typical protein shake. Though, looking at the ingredients, the only protein additive is milk protein, which normally doesn't have that particular taste. Overall, you can definitely taste the coffee but it isn't a particularly nice overall taste and has a similar taste to most other protein coffees on the market.

Macros and Nutrition - 5/10

For a 330 ml bottle (189 kcal), the drink contains 20 g of protein, 3 g of fibre and 24 g of carbohydrates. The macro profile for the most part is quite standard for most protein coffees and is a decent way to get a hit of protein conveniently. However, a plus side is that it does also has added vitamins (Vitamins A,B and C) which helps round out the nutritional profile somewhat.

Mixability/Texture - 4/10

The texture is where I feel it is let down by as it has a thick, stodgy texture and does not feel very smooth going down. Having said this, this is in line with most other protein drinks and coffees and is not something which is unique to this product. However, I feel that marketing could be improved as most other drinks market themselves as a milkshake which somewhat lends credence to the texture but this one is marketed as a caffe latte (or milk drink).

Cost - 9/10

A single bottle cost me just £1 (~€1.14), which is definitely one of the cheaper protein products on the market. In addition, it is commonly available in most UK supermarkets so it is convenient to purchase.

Bonus - 0 Point

Not much to say here really, nothing I feel like is worth any bonus points.

Total Score - 21 Points

Overall, this protein coffee doesn't have any outstanding features and both the taste and the texture are fairly standard. If you're looking for a cheap and cheerful protein & coffee hit, then this is a decent candidate, but, if you're looking for a drink that'll blow you out the park with its taste, then look elsewhere.
