Protein Review - Fulfil Vitamin and Protein Bar (Cookies & Cream)

Fulfil have introduced a fairly interesting product that tries to distinguish itself from the competition by having both a high protein content bar but also with 9 added vitamins, to try to appeal to the  more health and micro nutrient conscious consumer.

Taste - 8/10

I was thoroughly surprised by the taste, though definitely pleasantly surprised. I was expecting either a quest like protein bar where it was just a bar of whey (for lack of better description) with pieces within that bar, or, like the combat crunch bars where it is a whey centre dipped in a chocolate coating. What I got was more akin to a cereal bar where the bottom half was dipped in chocolate. It tasted super chocolaty and whilst it did have a slightly bitter aftertaste (probably from the stevia), it was not unpleasant and actually somewhat reminded me of dark chocolate. The only thing stopping me from rating it higher would be taste accuracy, whilst it did taste delicious, there wasn't anything that really made me feel like it was a cookies and cream bar, and worked better as a generic chocolate flavour.

Macros - 8/10

The macros for this bar are good with 195 kcal delivering 19.9 grams of protein, and 10.9 g of fibre. The protein:calorie ratio is pretty good for a bar with this good of a taste, however, there are 4.3 g of polyols which can be negative for people who are sensitive to sugar alcohols. Other than that, the added vitamins are always a nice touch but to be honest, most people who care about their vitamin profile are probably already taking multivitamins and as this bar delivers 100 % of your daily recommended amount for a lot of different vitamins, this 'feature' or aspect of this bar could instead be a turnoff for people who don't want to have too much of a certain vitamin.

Texture - 8/10

The texture was great with the majority being a crunchy rice crispy like bar (though it is actually a soy crisp) with a satisfying chocolate bottom and a chewy layer of white 'marshmallow' in the middle. There isn't much to fault with the texture apart from the middle layer was not particularly consistent and there was half a bar with a lot of the 'marshmallow' and the other half with none of it.

Cost - 6/10

I bought a box of 15 for £31 so each bar worked out to be around £2.06 (~€2.35) which is slightly on the expensive side for a protein bar. But for the taste and the macros, I will probably buy it again, albeit when it's on offers (as is common with most protein supplements).

Bonus - 2 Point

The bonus points come from both the added vitamins (which for me is a positive aspect, as I don't take multivitamins) and for creating a protein 'cereal' bar, which is close to a market first (though now big brands are also bringing out their own protein cereal/crunch bars like the Quest cereal bar or the warrior crunch bar, to name but a few).

Total Score - 32 Points

Overall, I am very impressed with this bar in terms of how tasty it is and how much it feels like a genuine chocolate bar, and not a protein bar. In addition, I do like how they did develop a little outside the box with using soy crisps as the protein source rather than a mixture of whey or other protein isolate as it was a nice change from the typical protein 'slab' you get in most other bars.
